What are the causes for thyroid hair loss ? Your thyroid gland, located in your throat, produces two hormones : thyronine and thyroxine. Their primary functions are to convert food into energy by modulating protein, vitamins, fat and carbs.
When your thyroid gland is unable to produce enough hormones ( a very common situation) it effects your body’s metabolism.
One of the these “side effects” in your metabolism is hair loss.
The thyroid gland provides the hormones for the growth of the follicles of the hair. The hair follicle is then not suppling enough proteins and amino acids and losses the ability to absorb minerals and vitamins. When you are not producing enough hormones your body is then busy where it needs it’s energy the most – it is busy keeping your vital functions alive. It doesn’t have enough energy to keep your hair healthy. It is then not growing properly, drying out and sometimes, falling out.
