Hypothyroid Disease – Who is at risk ?


You are at  risk for hypothyroid disease if you :

* Have someone in your family history with thyroid problems
* Have an autoimmune disease such as type 1 diabetes
* Have had surgery on your thyroid gland
* Have Down’s or Turner’s syndrome
* Are 50 years of age

Also, thyroid problems occur 8 times more often in women then men. This is explained by different events in a woman’s life that involves hormones.  ex: the menstrual cycle and  pregnancy.
